Citalopram (Celexa) for Anxiety and Depression

Understanding this effective SSRI for mood and anxiety disorders

What is Citalopram?

Citalopram (brand name Celexa) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. While primarily FDA-approved for major depressive disorder, it's widely used off-label for various anxiety disorders due to its effectiveness and tolerability.

Citalopram is often chosen as a first-line treatment because it has fewer drug interactions than many other SSRIs and is generally well-tolerated by most patients.
